You Can't Go Home Again |
They say you can't go home again
To places of your youth
To walk through memories shadows
And this we take as truth
For time it wares on flesh and bone
On mortared rock and stone
With none too subtle changes
To childhood long since grown
Street and field and woodlands
Where once we ran and played
Now filled with home an business
For others on their way
But here we came together
To part the shadowed veil
To dance among our memories
Through hall and field we trail
The stories grow with telling
The way things used to be
Or sometimes so remembered
By friends who walk with me
|
Their faces may be wrinkled
And hair long since gone gray
But still the memories linger
Beneath twinkling eyes they lay
The youthful memories tempered
By time and life it seems
To soften all the edges
Of our passions and our dreams
Our hopes our goals our hearts desire
Have changed and yes have grown
For now we see our children
With memories of their own
So as we part and take our leave
With farewells soft refrain
In hopes someday returning
For a trip down memory lane
